Alexis Mahler is a multi-instrumentalist, educator, and collaborator based in Portland, Oregon. Originally from Marquette, Michigan, she holds a bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance and Music Education from the Lawrence Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Dr. Samantha George. During her undergraduate years, Alexis also began studying cello, opening the door to versatile performance opportunities on both instruments.
After graduating, Alexis returned to her hometown to curate and direct a variety of small ensembles and concert series before relocating to Portland in 2015. Since then, she has become an active contributor to the city's vibrant music scene, performing in a range of classical and contemporary settings.
A passionate educator, Alexis teaches private violin and cello lessons in Southeast Portland and serves as a teaching artist with the Metropolitan Youth Symphony. She is sincerely dedicated to making music accessible to students of all ages, backgrounds, and musical tastes.
In addition to her work in classical music, Alexis is a sought-after session player, having recorded strings for artists such as Sleater-Kinney, Mayer Hawthorne, Matt Costa, Shook Twins, and Jacob Miller. She also writes and records her own original music, with three EPs and several singles released under her name.
At the heart of Alexis’s artistry is a love for community—whether performing live, teaching, recording, or writing with fellow creatives. When she’s not immersed in music, you’ll likely find her exploring the outdoors or enjoying a good cup of coffee somewhere in Portland.
